Kitchen Remodel project in Macomb

Not every kitchen electrical job is a full remodel — sometimes it's one outlet, done right. This Macomb homeowner needed a new outlet added to their kitchen island, and we ran it as a dedicated 20 amp circuit back to the panel with full GFCI protection.

Kitchen islands are one of the most common spots for outlet problems in older or partially updated kitchens. Either there's no outlet on the island at all, forcing extension cords across the floor for a mixer or slow cooker, or there's an outlet that was added later without being on its own circuit — meaning it's sharing capacity with other kitchen outlets and more likely to trip a breaker when a few appliances run at once.

Running a dedicated 20 amp circuit solves that: the island outlet has its own path back to the panel and its own breaker, so it can handle countertop appliances without competing for power with the rest of the kitchen. GFCI protection is required by code for kitchen countertop and island outlets, since they're near water and used with plug-in appliances, and it's a straightforward addition when a circuit is already being run.

It's a small job on paper, but it's the kind of fix that makes a kitchen island actually usable the way it was meant to be.
