Rather than a full service change, we installed a new 100 amp disconnect on the unit's feed, giving the homeowner a clean, code-compliant shutoff point, and added surge suppression to protect the panel and everything wired behind it from voltage spikes coming through the shared system.

Surge protection matters even more in a trough-fed setup like this one. A spike on the shared feed, whether from a grid event, a lightning strike near the building, or a problem elsewhere on the trough, has a path into every unit tied to it. A dedicated suppressor at this unit's disconnect gives it its own layer of protection instead of relying on whatever, if anything, is upstream.
