Kitchen Remodel project in Washington

A full kitchen remodel means rethinking the electrical from the ground up, not just adding a few outlets. For this Washington Township project, we handled the complete electrical scope for the new kitchen: accent lighting, pendant lights over the island, and under-cabinet lighting to eliminate the dark counter space that plagues so many older kitchen layouts.

Under-cabinet lighting in particular changes how a kitchen functions day to day — it lights up the counter surface directly, where prep work actually happens, instead of relying on overhead fixtures that leave shadows right where you need to see. Paired with pendant lighting over the island and accent lighting elsewhere, it gives the homeowner layered lighting they can adjust for cooking, entertaining, or just relaxing in the space.

We also replaced every device in the kitchen — outlets, switches, and dimmers — and brought the whole space up to full GFCI protection. Kitchens are one of the areas of the home where GFCI protection is required by code, since it's a room with water, countertop appliances, and outlets in close proximity. GFCI devices cut power in a fraction of a second if they detect a ground fault, protecting the people using the kitchen from shock.

A remodel is the right time to handle all of this at once. Opening the walls and ceiling for cabinetry and lighting means the wiring, devices, and protection can all be brought current in a single pass instead of patched in later.
