Keep Calm and Power On in the Metro Detroit Area
Power outages have a way of making people feel…well…powerless! Not only are they inconvenient, they can also be dangerous in certain situations. For example, if you rely on refrigerated medicine or if you lose heat in the middle of a Michigan winter, the situation can quickly become an emergency.
With the right generator in your corner, you won’t need to worry about these scenarios. At The Neighborhood Electrician, we carry and install a wide range of whole-home backup generators that are designed to:
- Automatically detect a power outage from the utility lines and activate within seconds.
- Safely power all of your electrical appliances, including the heater, air conditioner, refrigerator, freezer, sump pump and more.
- Automatically transfer power back to the utility lines once the power is restored.
We’ve been installing whole-home backup generators for decades and offer a range of options. After assessing your needs and budget, we’ll recommend the right generator that is properly sized and designed to serve you best. No more stressing every time a storm rolls in or the wind picks up. With a whole-home generator, you can put the power back in your hands without having to lift a finger!
Interlock Kits Are an Affordable Alternative
Many people don’t want to invest in a whole-home generator and prefer a more economical alternative for emergency situations. This is when an interlock kit is the ideal choice.
Interlock kits are compatible with portable rollout generators and are installed on the cover of the electrical panel. An inlet box is also installed on the outside of the home right near the panel. When the power goes out, you simply roll out the generator and plug it into the inlet box. Then you flip the transfer switch so the generator can power all of your appliances, including the freezer, sump pump, etc. Using the kit guarantees that the main breaker and generator breaker can’t be on at the same time. Then, once the power is restored to the utility lines, you manually flip back the transfer switch, unplug the generator and return it to storage.
Interlock kits are an extremely safe, reliable and affordable way to continue powering your home until the utility lines are repaired. The only thing you need an electrician for is to install the wiring, kit and inlet box. We know that some people just don’t want to pay for a whole-home generator and want a less expensive solution for emergency situations. This is exactly what an interlock kit will provide.
