Basement Finish project in West Bloomfield Township

This West Bloomfield Township project was a full basement finish — two bedrooms, a play area, and an entertainment room — and we handled the electrical for the entire space from scratch.

Finishing a basement into livable bedroom space comes with code requirements that a lot of homeowners don't expect going in. Each basement bedroom needs an egress window, a window large enough and low enough to the floor to serve as an emergency exit, and we made sure the lighting and outlet placement around that window met code, so it functions as a real point of egress and not just a source of natural light.

Bedrooms also trigger smoke and carbon monoxide detector requirements, and we wired both into the new space, interconnected with the rest of the home's detectors so an alarm anywhere in the house is heard everywhere in the house — a basement bedroom is exactly the kind of space where that interconnection matters most.

The play area and entertainment room got their own dedicated circuits and outlet layout, planned around how the family actually intends to use the space — TV and media equipment, gaming systems, and enough general-purpose outlets that nothing ends up running off a power strip chain.

A basement finish is one of the more involved electrical jobs we take on precisely because it's building a livable space from an unfinished one, with code requirements — egress, smoke/CO, GFCI where applicable — that have to be right, not just functional.
